In Matthew 16:18-19 the Lord Jesus said: “And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Whenever I read these two verses, I would think: Why did the Lord Jesus give Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven? Since the Lord Jesus bestowed upon Peter such great authority, it means that the Lord Jesus approved of Peter’s faith and that Peter was a person after God’s heart. But I couldn’t understand why the Lord commended Peter since he had denied knowing the Lord three times before His crucifixion. I was very perplexed.

    The Lord Jesus said, “Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for you know not what hour your Lord does come” (Matthew 24:40-42). In the past, every time I read these verses, I would think: When will these verses be fulfilled? When exactly will the Lord come back? Who will be taken? Who will be left? Am I the left one? The more I thought about it, the more I felt afraid and worried. In the fear and worry, I didn’t dare to leave the church.

Question: The Bible clearly states that the Lord Jesus is Christ, the Son of God, and we believers all acknowledge that the Lord Jesus is Christ, the Son of God. Yet you’ve testified that the incarnate Christ is the appearance of God, is God Himself. That the Lord Jesus is God Himself and Almighty God is also God Himself, this is quite mysterious to us and differs from our previous understanding. So is the incarnate Christ God Himself or God’s Son? Both situations seem reasonable to us, and both accord with the Bible. So which understanding is correct?
